F3: f-3 and black magic

I have a BM Hyperdeck Shuttle on my F3 and it triggers fine from the camera. You just have to activate the triggers on the camera and press "stop" on the Shuttle so the green "stop" LED goes dark. I also think it takes one record trigger to activate the Shuttle but after that it works each time you press record on the F3.

so eventually you need to record on f-3 in parallel to get it work ?
second question can you record lut and resolve it later
how does it hold apple prores , any glitches ?

I have this setup. The only way I found it to work is to set the Shuttle to records when it detects timecode start/stop, and I have to have an sxs card in the camera as well.

Can you elaborate, mapping the correct menu selections and shuttle setup?

Richard, I believe what Editman is talking about is, taking the Shuttle 2 out of playback mode and into record mode by pressing the "stop button". I don't know if you have this issue but each time I boot up the device it is in playback mode and I have to press the "stop"button to get it into "record standby" mode.

I am referring to his statement that he can trigger the record just fine via the camera and to activate the triggers. I was asking for him to elaborate on the specific menu settings within the F3 as well as the proper Shuttle setup (you have to select certain settings with it attached to a computer) to get this to happen. I have been wanting to trigger the Shuttle to record from the F3 without an sxs card in the slot ever since I purchased the shuttle. I am well aware that you need to press stop to put the Shuttle in record standby.

You can record the LUT applied to s-log internally to the cards, or via any output that isn't the SDI A or B port. The SDI A or B ports ignore the LUTs. Prores is great...whether or not it is a better codec than DNxHD cand be debated...but unfortunately on the Shuttle, DNxHD has a gamma shift and Prores does not.

thanks Richard , while start and stop works , does it need to be in record run tc or it also works with free run as well ?

They way I have everything connected with the A HD SDI feeding my Shuttle it triggers fine. You have to enable the option on the Shuttle also by using the Hyperdeck Utility and have it set to "When SDI timecode is running". I always monitor from the regular SDI out and if I need to playback I just use the internal SxS cards because it's so easy to just press Rec Review. I just use my Shuttle as a recording device.

You don't have to set any other settings than enabling the A SDI output on the F3 for the Shuttle to trigger.

If you do want to record 720p50/60 you have to use the regular SDI output because the A HD SDI outputs only 1080p.

Yes we are saying the same. I see no downside to record both internal and external and it will trigger just fine. Just get an adapter to use SDHC cards in one of the SxS slots and it's not expensive.
