Extremely low budget feature. GH1 vs 5D. Practicallity.

So I've been planning on shooting my upcoming feature with the Gh1 > the 7D because of the Continuous auto focus which helps me cut down on my daily crew. From what I understand is the 5D doesn't do this, right? Is the difference visually or workflow wise for the 5D any superior to the Gh1 to warrant a sell/upgrade, or you think I'm just making my life more difficult? I assume the 5D can be adapted to FD? If so, I love the non-crop factor which would be a big selling point for me...but the none auto focus seems to be a tad of an issue to me seeing as how I won't have a 1st AC most the time.

I dunno, I'm kinda rambling but maybe you guys could chime in with some advice? not doing a Gh1 vs. 5d which is better, but for my needs I'm trying to figure this out.

The gh1 can be more easily adapt to fd lenses. I am shooting a feature on the gh1 right now and things are going great.

I didn't think that 'auto focus' other than accepting the fact that the stock lens had it on the GH-1, was any 'big deal'.

For the Nikon lenses I anticipate puting on the GH-1, none will work with auto focus.

The method that people seem to go for at that point is to put a external focusing assembly on the lens, and do a more traditional focus pulling setup.

In terms of still work, I never used the 'continuous' focus option, because any little shift from the 'subject of focus', would cause the focusing to hunt, and that
in 'film', despite it's current popularity for a 'reality' look, looks shitty to me for the most part.

Hmmm. That's a pretty decent point. Difficulty adapting FD lenses could be an issue though, seeing as how that's what I have. The thing I hate is not being able to be fast and wide on the Gh1 because of the 2x crop/

If you want high quality and want to use FD lenses then the GH1 is your ONLY choice. It runs FD lenses easily with an adapter that does not degrade the image with a lens on the adapter (get one of the metal ones, not plastic). To run FD lenses on Cannon you have to purchase an adapter that contains low quality glass, and the resulting image is much poorer than you can get on a GH1. Yes, there will be a 2x adapter factor, but the lenses will be just as fast. If you want to adapt cheap lenses to 5D without the large adapter factor try old Nikon.
