Extremely Intense Sound Design - Part 1/3. I dare you.

This is part 1 of 3. I have part 3 shot, but need to finish 2. All I'm going to hint at for part 3 is: ****-tons of monsters.

Shot this on my DVX100b. I really love the way it turned out. I had my friend use the camera( I 'acted'). I set up the camera, lights etc.. and Directed him in the camera movements that I wanted etc.. I also edited it(which took the longest, but had the most fun doing).

Please bare with the beginning MINUTE of dialogue, it will explain the short film.

Prompt/Assignment for Cinematography 1: A moment with a character where you reveal things about them, and get a sense of who they are.

Enjoy, and I'm open to criticism:

hi i like the sound effects and the quality of the video. what settings did you use? I like the look of your film.

Really cool. I like the camerawork and your sound design is excellent too. One constructive critique is that I would get an adult to do the echoing voiceover describing the subject. Otherwise I really dig it!

I couldn't agree with you more. I was somewhat pressed for time, and finding and adult was pretty difficult. My original plan was to actually have two adults, and have them with different personalities where they argue over the tests... but as you can see: it didn't work out with even getting one. S'okay though, I'm still happy with how it turned out.

Really well done, I like the way you shot it.

I had a question regarding the sound used. Where did you get the effects for those punches? They sounded pretty realistic and I figured they might be useful for a short I'm making later on.

Anyways, great job man.

i made sure to put on my studio headphones for this one...excellent. I was kept in suspense without any dialogue. this definitely is an example of how important great sound is. i cant wait for the other parts.

the only thing i have wrong with it is the adult voice, but i didnt think it was REALLY bad and we all get pressed for time. anyway, really enjoyed it

Excellent work Dan- I especially enjoyed your audio programming! If I could make a suggestion with your vocal overlay -a really good effect to run on a vocal to make it "bigger" is a cloner effect along with a barley noticeable doubler effect. It gives your vocal its size and some and what of an industial feel.
Props man I enjoyed it!!

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys, much appreciated!

As for the punches, I have a huge library of sounds, and I add little bass hits, along with with various blood splats and bone cracks for that perfect sound combo, along with minor bits of Reverb, so it doesn't sound like it's in a studio.

Part 2/3 and 3/3 will be done by next week :D

That's usually a recipe for disaster. :) I can't believe you pulled it off. What program did you do the audio work in? Great job!
