Extreme MX stuff

Colors look good...
Is that 60i slowed down?
How did you get the widescreen?... squeeze, letterbox, crop..

nope. just 24pa in real time (except for the obvious time ramp stuff). those bikes/riders just naturally look slo mo because they are flying so far and high.

shot in squeeze.

I love how you cut out all the going towards ramps and going up ramps and mostly showed the bikes in the air. The nicely lit bikes against a black sky was really nice.

That was coool. I liked it! Who were the athletes, only the KTM looked Red Bull branded???

i have no idea who these guys were. i know one guy was from san diego and the other from long beach. they mentioned that one of the guys would be competing in the next x-games.

cheezweezl, do you really like your fig rig? Is it real or homemade?
I tried building the stedicam on a stick(steel tubing with balance adjustments and weights) but I hate it. I didn't build the gimbal yet but I'm very picky and so far don't think it will end up making me happy.
So how about the fig rig? I have my own metal shop so I can build.......whatever?
Do you have some test clips for walking shots?

i have the real fig rig. i also made the cheap steadicam and while functional, was very heavy. so i bought a glidecam 2000.

having both, i can tell you that you will use your fig rig over the stabilizer 90% of the time. it's so easy to pull out and shoot. any stabilizer with a gimbal will need constant tweaking.

you can check out my site and watch the "ryan calhoun" video. all walking shots were the fig rig. http://www.fisherfilmworks.com

The NEW FIGCAM!

The NEW FIGCAM!

My all new FIGCAM!
Works GREAT! :D

Get a SteadiCam JR. They work GREAT! I used one with a 8lb Camera that was way over sized and it still worked great! It would work perfect for the DVX100. Go SteadiCam Jr.

Okay, I watched the Ryan Calhoun and it was terrific!. I see smooth Ex-Lax moves you had there. What was shot with the Figrig?
I would love to get the smoothness you got there.
I really liked the inside shots for color. The outside felt kinda video. Did you light the interior shots?
Your quicktime settings were also excellent.
Was this shot 24pa and fast shutter? I didnt see the 1/24 blurring.

Edit: I watched it again I changed my mind, the outside colors are very filmic, only a couple scenes were video but still great.

the ryan video was fig rig, jib, and tripod. no steadicam at all. all of the outside performance shots (beach, sidewalk, etc.) were figrig.

indoor shots were lit with a 500w lowel softbox for the key and a 250w fresnel for the hairlight.

24pa and shutter off... i wanted the motion blur since it is a slow song.

at small size, i find that even film looks too sharp and more like video. i am cutting a music video now that was shot on 16mm and at half size even it looks just like the dvx.... the ryan video looks way more filmy on a tv or at full rez.
