Extreme Close-up with DVX?

I am looking for a way to shoot an extreme-extreme-extreme ECU of a cigarette burning. So extreme, it needs to fill the whole screen. Does anyone know of a way to do it, other than building a giant cigarette?
May be a diopter attachment  that would shift the focus and allow to shoot on a longer zoom while having the cigarette really close to the lens?

Hey Patriki,

Something I can think of, is using the Century Optic's 1.6X Tele-Converter

I have not tried it myself, however from what I have learned about it, it may help you with the attempt to do your XC.

Does anyone here agree with it?

I agree that a strong Diopter (probably at least +3, but that is just a guess) would be the best way. If you only care about the cigarette in the center of the frame a single element, inexpensive diopter will probably be fine. To get good edge to edge sharpness (in higher strengths especially) an achromatic diopter is far superior.

Tele attachments also increase the minimum focus by their power ( example: 3 foot minimum focus lens alone, 4 feet 10 inches with a 1.6 X tele) so you would be forced to move back and not achieve greater magnification than the camera lens alone at minimum focus.

Thank you gentlemen.
I agree the tele-converter would not work. Any other ideas besides diopters?
Doe anyone know of any other type of attachment?
Cheers!

Get a mini35 adapter and buy a lens with a macro! That might run you anywhere from $800-$1500 (if you go with the micro35 adapter from redrockmicro.com including buying, say, a Nikon lens that has a macro). The other added benefits are all your other shots will have real DOF too!

A 72mm screw-on diopters will do it.

Even a cheap set, if this is all you will ever need it for. :-)

GenJerDan-
Do you have any links you could post of said, cheap diopter set?

I got the link from here...it was an ebay thing (a dealer in the midwest, if I recall correctly)...but I can't find it now. (Probably buried in one of the diy 35mm adapter threads)

Actually, the dealer lives down the street from someone here...if anyone can jump in with that as clue to the identity.

Anyway, the set I got had a +1, +2, +4, and "macro" for $30 or so.

The quality was good enough for my purposes...

The micro35 also comes with an achromatic diopter.

All I know about the vendor is they sent me what I ordered in a timely manner. And I wasn't disappointed in my $30 investment.

Truth be told, the close up set came in better condition than a Tiffen filter I bought from a "real" vendor.

Take that for what it's worth. ;^)

If you want it extremely large just fix a standard photographic 24/36 lens (50mm..=+20 diopter) in front of yr cam lens and focus yr object at some 2" in front of that lens.
