extreme close up of an eye

Re: extreme close up of an eye

No, what you want is a close-focus lens like the Nikon 6T. That'll let you zoom all the way in and focus extremely close. The good news is the Nikon 6T is pretty cheap, about $50 or so, but you'll also need a step-down ring to use it (72mm->62mm step-down ring).

There are even stronger-magnification lenses out there too, like the Hoya 10x, which will let you get even closer.

Re: extreme close up of an eye

I think the Nikon is superb, especially given the price point. It's a little limiting, in that you have to zoom out to at least Z60 to avoid the vignetting from the smaller 62mm diameter plus the 72mm->62mm step-down ring, but for a total investment of $50 it's tough to beat.

I haven't had the pleasure of using Century's diopters, although I have no doubt that they're of exceptional quality as well.

So what about the Hoya's 72mm (i think it's a +1 +2 +4 set sold about 80$) ?  are they any good ?

Re: extreme close up of an eye

The Hoyas are single element diopters, so they're going to have more chromatic aberrations. The Nikons are beautifully corrected 2-element achromats and are superb in high-res 35mm film applications, so they're going to rock on the DVX. If the Century diopter is better optically than the Nikons, the DVX is not going to be able to distinguish the difference. The only advantage of the Century diopters would be the full zoom-thru.

OK thanks, i may give te Nikon a try...
and what about the Tiffen's diopter anyone using them ?

Re: extreme close up of an eye

If you need real close pics, take a standard 35mm lens, glue it onto an adaption ring (front towards yr cam lens) zoom all the way in and set focus a infinity. Keep the lensfront at somewhat less than 2" from the eyeball. FYI a 50mm photographic lens will result in a +20 dioptry.
