Extreme close up of an eye?

Started up as NormanBates, my old online gaming name, obvious alias. Samuel is my real name, now that I'm on a grown-up forum I can use that one :)

RE: lake surrounded by mountains: if you can manage to shoot while the sun is hitting the lake, but your subject is in the shade, you'll have a great reflection.

ahhh right... :)

do you think blocking the sun above the actress with some diffusing fabric will do the trick? having the actress sit under some trees would also be possible, but would make bouncing the sun harder/more time consuming...

Yes, but I would go even further: instead of diffussion, I would use a big reflector to put her completely in the shade (if it has a black side for negative fill, I'd probably even go for that), then a white or golden bounce to compensate a bit (but not much); but you'll see how dark you want her when you're there

Yes, that would be the idea. I have small (60cm), medium (1m) and big (1.80m) reflectors, and the big one is the one I use most. I haven't used anything above this so I can't comment on the difference with better tools.

You can use the 1.80m one for the shadow and/or negative fill above her, and the 1m one you already have for the white or golden reflection in front of her.

great! the shoot will happen the weekend after the coming one, i think i've everything i need to get this shot now :)

i will report and tell you guys how it was, looking to get some production stills too...

Thanks for all the help!

I shot something similar for my new film and getting not-too-shallow DoF is really the tricky part (apart from keeping the talent from not blinking)
