I have a borrowed 300 this weekend to determine if I want to purchase and a deciding factor is how tight I can get on jewelry. I have an e-commerce client and I need to literally fill the frame with a ring, sometimes the diamond, spinning on a turntable.
I have Series 9 Tiffen +1 and +2 that I would have to tape to the front of the lens which is a Mickey Mouse way to do it because I can't get them absolutely parallel to the front lens element. I have experimented with the Macro function and the diopter combined. I have two questions:
1) Are there specific HD level close up diopters that are made for this kind of work? And if so does anyone know where I can buy an 82mm screw in?
2) Should I turn the CAC off since I am adding glass to the front of the lens that the camera is not aware of? It's hard for me to test this since I will be having lots of jewelry in different colors turning.
Renting a longer lens for this job is not in the budget and there aren't that many 1/3" zooms to rent.
If anyone out there has done critical extreme close up work for a really picky client and their agency people please let me know what can be done. By the way, I am very underwhelmed by the supplied lens and wish Panasonic would let me buy the body only so I could buy a more professional lens. It does not do the camera justice and would merely be a paperweight if I buy the camera. The minimum focusing distance is too far.
Thanks,
Ned
