Extracting a clip without recompressing

I need to cut a short clip from a 4gb .mts file and I need to not recompress it but keep the exact I/P frame data of the original... is it possible ? which tool should I use ?
thanks

If I'm not mistaken, VoltaicHD is coming out with a feature to do that in their next big update.

Wish the GH1 supported this in-camera. Even my 3 y.o. Canon P&S lets me trim videos in playback mode. Seems like a big oversight in a video-oriented camera. Maybe Panasonic will add it to a future firmware update...fingers crossed. :)

Until then...Elecard AVC HD Editor seems to do what you asked. It cuts on the GOP boundaries, so no transcoding.

I recently tested it with a few small (20-30 second) AVCHD 720p60 videos from the GH1.

Pros:
- very fast
- clean & simple interface
- also lets you combine/shuffle/duplicate multiple clips into one video

Cons:
- no audio preview, so your cuts must be on video cues only
- outputs MTS file, not AVCHD folder (FCP/FCE users take note)
- minor timeline UI quirks (e.g. playback head sometimes appears in the wrong place)

Unknown:
- Will it handle large files?
- Does it synch the trimmed audio track correctly?

For me, it turns out to be much more hassle than just Log & Transfer transcoding into Final Cut. But if you have lots of long videos that you want to trim quickly, it might do the trick. Check it out. They have a 30-day trial.
