External tally source

I will very soon hopefully be purchasing (3) 500's for a multi-camera switched system. The only thing right now that I am brainstorming solutions to is the tally system. Two of the 500s will be studio configured with the 8" LCD monitors which have GPI, so tally is not an issue there. The only problem is the third camera which is ENG style. I have investigated several external tally systems however these will not work for my application. Anybody have any ideas on how to get an external tally source into the 500? Also, I will have 3 RCUs for these as well.

I'm in the same boat. I'm using rc10 rcu and the Camplex system. I'm thinking either a mod to the vf cable that uses the contact closure in the camplex box to fire the built in led or I might have to do an ugly hack that places an additional LED inside the housing somehow with an exernal cable.
I guess this is what we have to put up with to get ccu controlled HD multicam setups without spending $100,000 each?

I just may pursue that VF mod. That seems like a reasonable idea. I will let you know if I get it to work or not!

I just finished two gigs in a concert hall without tally. Held back the ops a bit. One of them was live to air and who wants a mistake then?
I need a solution ASAP. We are getting quite a buzz about our HD flypack since we are the only game around other than a 50K/day HD truck.
I have a feeling I won't have much time to get er done.
