external storage solution?

Hi all,

I'm looking for an external eSATA 4-bay drive enclosure that has 2 eSATA ports, so I can connect my 2 computers to my hard disks.

I do audio and video editing, on Mac Pro and PC Win XP. I need to be able to access/stream files quickly (i.e. at SATA data rates) from both computers.

I've searched on google for eSATA enclosures but couldn't seem to find any that can connect to 2 computers. It would drastically improve my working time. Does anyone know of a solution out there like this?

Thanks

I could be wrong, but I don't think eSATA works like that...that is I don't think you can have two eSATA connections.

I would suggest getting a gigabit ethernet enclosure/network(or a data server{basically a third computer on the network with a RAID array}) if you need to share data.

Hi Nick,

Thanks - I already tried that, on a third computer, and a NAS enclosure, with gigabit ethernet, but the latency is just too slow for video and audio... in the end I had to copy files from the networked disc onto the local machine whenever I wanted to edit them, and then move them back again... it all adds up and with large files this takes a lot of time.. I need to be able to edit them directly on the external storage and share them.

Does anyone else know a way around this? Pls don't tell me I have to continue moving files around..

Thanks
