Hey guys, Finally I decided to upgrade my AF. Im looking for a good if not the best external recorder. Which would be the best choice to pump up the footage?

Been a ton of posts and info on external devices already. Did you miss it all?

Dont expect IQ miracles from an external recorder but the BM Hyperdeck Shuttle will certainly "pump up your footage" if you are after massive file sizes.

Thanks shooter. I guess Ive been away for a while and missed the posts you mention. I guess what Im looking for is for an upgrade in compression. Is there such a thing?

here is a list of ext recorders:
atomos samurai and ninja, black magic hyperdeck shuttle 2, sound devices pix220 and pix240, aja ki pro mini, nanoflash, convergent design gemini, cinedeck extreme.
I hope not to have missed any.

Thanks a lot for the Information guys. I really appreciate it. So for what I see, with the cinedeck extreme I could pick up 4:4:4 ?? Is that actually possible?

Not with an AF100 or any other HDMI or HD-SDI output device. 4:4:4 requires either dual-link HD-SDI or 3GSDI.

When deciding on which external recorder is best for the AF100, to get the best image, how big of a difference does it matter wether it records 50mbps or 250 mbps.
I'm sure theres a common misconception that big numbers always mean better. (same thing with price, more expensive things are better.. because they're expensive.. or something)

Logic says it would be.

Look at it this way.

When exporting something such as a wmv or a QT...the only way one improve the IQ is to raise the bit rate. (increase the file size).

Logic says the same thing happens when capturing ( codec notwithstanding)

GH2 hacks would seem to prove it as well.

The Atomos Ninja and Samurai can also use spinning disc drives, not just SSD drives.
