External Recorders / Rigs

Hello everyone,
I am in the market for a solid external recorder for my FS100. I like the internal recording but feel like I could get more out of it. Are there any samples of comparisons? Is there anyone out there that has external recorders for this camera and can talk about the benefits? I am looking at all options going forward to build this rig.

I am also looking to build up a rig to use in studio situations and on my shoulder. Are there any options out there that you like? I have been interested in some of the overseas companies like Lanparte.

Thanks,
Chris

Unless you are trying to deliver footage in the 50mb/s broadcast standard or you need an edit-ready codec right out of the camera, I don't think that an external recorder is a good investment for FS100 owners. There are several tests floating around online that reach the same conclusion. Here is one of them:

With regards to a shoulder rig, consider Tilta over Lanparte. Their prices are comparable but supposedly Tilta rigs are of better build quality (I have their rig, but have never used Lanparte's so I cannot compare them firsthand).

I found a huge diffrence between an external recorder and the internal, the higher resoultion you deliver to, then bigger the diffrence.. so maybe delivering to youtube might mask the obvoius damage you suffer with the internal recorder - i'd advise to test for yourself before beliveing some yahoos on youtube who obvously never looked at it on a scope or tried to pull secondaries... even my grannie can see the diffrences on these screen grabs ;-)

i also have zero experience with Lanaparte rigs, i'm quite happy with my WestSideAV's rig, i have two and they have been around the world, taken a licking, kept on ticking;

I saw your post you mentioned Dermot and it made me really consider grabbing one. I also edit in Premiere and notice the native MTS editing makes it look like crap, so now I feel like my last few projects weren't given justice! :(

Hi Dermot..which rig fro WestSide did you get..and did you use some blocks or risers to make it work with the FS100..Thanks Rich

I use Brian Berkey's stuff and love it, very flexible and well priced along with EXCELLENT service and follow since its made in the USA. I record with a Ninja 2 and it certainly makes a difference.
