External Record

Is there any way to plug in, through the component jacks, a VCR and record from the VHS tape onto the camera onto either MiniDV or P2? Can't seem to find any way of doing it, and I'm pretty sure you'd need an analogue to digital converter, but if you guys know a way around then I'd be very very grateful, bit stuck at the moment.

well, a way around would be to capture to a pc, and then play it back via firewire, or copy to P2 card..but i guess thta not the answer you expected..!?!

hvx_germanboy is right but, I think:

If you are only interested in capturing it to "DV" in the HVX you could probably use any mini-dv cam as a "pass through" device, capturing that output via firewire to the HVX.

Some of the NLE's may permit a signal out during capture as well, whether or not you are actually capturing to one of your drives.

I'm not sure if the component out also permits input . . . see the manual (sorry, don't have mine handy).

Basically what I need is a digital copy of this VHS. I have a Canopus ADVC 110 to convert the analogue to digital but it's only coming through in black and white. I was just wondering if there is an easy to way to record it through the camera or something?

You can use the composite( not component) output from the camera as an input, but if I'm not mistaking, you can only record to miniDV, not P2. It's in the manual.

you can connect your VHS to the HVX200 trough Svideo (4 pin) or composite (Yellow)and stereo audio (Red & White) RCA connectors, and then record to MiniDV tape, be aware that you can not improve the original tape quality.
