Hi everybody.

I am looking for an extetnal monitor for my gh4. Do you guys use 1920x1080 or lets say 1280x800 is good enough for 7 inches monitor? Has eanybody used feelworld monitors. Pretty cheap but have good reviews.

If you don't need false colour you can get the VS-1, since the GH4 already has peaking, histogram and meters. You just need to enable it to display on the HDMI out. I have it, works great, and I can pretty much focus by eye even without peaking. Just be careful adjusting the RGB settings. I thought my monitor was crunching the blacks, but turns out I just adjusted the RGB sliders in the wrong direction.

Some monitors expect a Legal Range (16-235) signal, & if fed Full (0-255) will crush the highlights, & shadows.

That is true of most monitors. Even external recorders like the Flame north of $1,000.00 do not display 0-255 correctly. I use an Atomos Blade and if using any format other than V-log I set the camera to 16-235 luma range. When using v-log we are stuck at 0-255 however which is a bummer. I have created a LUT for those monitors that can load LUTs to apply a luma correction on the 0-255 signal. Can't use it on my Blade but a friend of mine uses it on his Flame and it works great for him.

If one is not using v-log absolutely always set the camera to 16-235 when using an external monitor.

For those using external recorders this applies to you as well. If you have your GH4 set to 0-255 your external recorder is recording an incorrect luma range and your clips will appear darker than they should. Davinici Resolve can correct for this issue. fixing in post before you grade to highly suggested or if possible set the GH4 to 12-235 and never have to worry about it.

That's what I initially thought was happening, but even at 16-235 the image was too crushed. Once I adjusted the RGB sliders, I got that shadow detail back, even at 0-255.
