external mic question

I have an external shotgun mic(azden sgm-1x) attached to my dvx microphone holder. It picks up the camera motor and I can hear the timecode noise being recorded. Any suggestions to stop this?

If you have to have your mic attached to the camera than try getting or making something that raises the microphone above the camera a little bit. Something that could attach to the shoe on the handle. That way it would be away from the camera a little more.

Im curious as to how you hear the time code noise ?? surley all you would pick up is the zoom motor maybe the noise your refering to is the cable from the mic rubbing or something ?..

AT makes a shock mount that slides right into the hotshoe; I use it all the time and have never heard any camera noise (except of course when I hit it by accident...)

servo motor noise is one of the few things I hate about my DVX

only solution is not to use the motor, go manual, or put the mic farther from the camera. I always try to boom or lav whenever possible.

i do the same. and camera noise has never been a problem...

i have the same mic and IT CAME with a shock mount. from azden. pretty compact and functional i gotta say.
But it's true, that especially when using the wideangle and when the mic wears its furry windscreen, it needs some extra height to not get in the frame. Using some old photography stuff i had at home, I built myself a 10cm support which mounts on the hot shoe and raises the mic enough to get out of frame.
