External Mic...... HELP

I must have have tried every configuration I could think of and still having problems getting my external mic to record..... meaning just the external mic recording and no sound input recording on the built in mic. I'm using an AZDEN Shotgun Mic (SGM-2X) with a 15 ft. XLR cable. (planning more ft. in future)

I need help in the EXACT settings in which my DVX-100A should be set to. (Hardware settings and menu settings in camera) Also, I would think, the XLR input I have the mic plugged into would matter greatly. Just not sure which one would accomplish what I'm trying to do...... (Record w/ shotgun mic and not internal)......

A solution would help me greatly with my projects..... Thanks to all who reply

Do this... plug your mic into "input 2". Switch both audio channel switches to "input 2" and you should be golden. The external mic should be the only audio that gets recorded.

hi there,
if you are going to run the one mic sourse into both channels then set one about 10db lower than the other this will allow you more headroom to cover loud noises.
It also allows you to run the higher level track a bit hotter without the worry of mashing the level against the stop.
