External HD Under 180$

My suggestion would be to purchase an external HD enclosure then purchase the drive seperate. It would put you at about the same as far as price then in the future when you need more space you can just swap drives

I have had good experiences with the WD MyBook series. Also LaCie are good. I would suggest that you get a drive with FW400 at least (FW800 or eSATA would be best) or else you will get killed on the render/compression time.

You may not be able to to do that - I don't know what the I/O options on iMac are. But if you upgrade your computer later, you will have that high-speed port available at least.

As for the iMac, I'm still unsure if I should wait till april when the new one's arrive and edit till then on my sisters macbook pro, or if I should buy a crappy glossy one (which is due for updates and a mattescreen-option!)

Just a heads up, Comp USA is going out of business nation wide. They have some good prices on external Hd's

I know a lot of the good stuff is already gone at the Compusa Superstore here in Delaware. Now I just found out a few days ago that if you go to www.compusa.com you can get some GOOD deals on some items including hard drives. The one thing that on that site that is a bit suspect is the price they are advertising for the Sony PS3 of $429 when everybody else has it for $399 and this is the 40GB version.

I've choosen the "Mybook Studio 2". That should do for the next 2 years. Afterwards I will look at a 1T-2T raid disk. :)
