I need to get an external HD for capture, storage, Backup etc. Forgive stupid question but, do I need a Sata or NTSC?

No question is stupid.

Sata is the connection type - Hard disk - Computer (Sata is fine)

NTSC is the file format on the hard disk

NTSC is actually the National Television System Committee. You're thinking of NTFS (Windows NT File System.) If your computer has eSATA, then get a hard drive with it, because it's way faster than USB or Firewire. If your computer doesn't have eSATA, then you can either get an add-on card, or go for a Firewire drive.

My computer has an ICH8R/DO/DH SATA RAID controller, so I guess an eSATA would work? That Seagate 2TB with the RAID 1 mirror is looking pretty tempting. Thanks for the feed back ya'll.

I don't see how having a RAID controller has anything to do with eSATA. You need a dedicated eSATA female port on your computer, regular SATA has a different shaped connector.

But it's a simple pin adaptation, not a signal change. Some eSATA hard drives come with an eSATA PCI card faceplate with a SATA cable on the inside. Then all you have to do is plug the cable into your motherboard's SATA connection.

Ah, I didn't know that existed. Cool, thanks!

why wouldn't you consider a quick stream device.. they are great and portable hard drive connects right to your camera no computer needed until its time to edit then connect to computer . no dropped frames.. great I used on when i use my dvx100b now sits in case cause hvx200 is here ..

you're right hacker, if someone could describe..I've many unused ports, Please forgive ignorance, Just trying to get set up to capture, store and edit from my recent purchase of a 100B. Thanks, all.
