External Hard Drive Woes, Recommended Labels?

My Western Digital My Book (Home Edition) is malfunctioning. I'm mainly looking for recommendations for a new external hard drive. Any tried and true labels? I'm looking for something durable and long-lasting. I have an Acomdata that has served me well; I may purchase another. Any thoughts on Seagate? Has anyone else experienced problems with Western Digital drives?
Thanks.

Never liked WD and Maxtor. Seagate had a flaky time too recently. Samsung apparently are good just now, their green drives run slower RPM but larger areal density so should be a good bet.

I've been around the manufacturers circle over the past 15 years changing favorites every few years. Right now western digital seems to be on top with respect to reliability. WD's were a favorite when 40 MB disks were hot but they lost their edge, seagate won out for a while, then maxtor, etc. Every manufacturer has it's problems so the best thing you can do is replace the drive every year or so. It all depends on how much you value your data and what you wish to afford.

Seagate went on my @#$% list this Spring switched to Hitachi
Caldigit tests and bins all their drives- hence the reputation for reliability
OWC has been my source for 12 years for off the shelf Mac drives & enclosures.
I have A WD Velociraptor & 3 Hitachi's in my Mac Pro
Working on getting an external RAID right now.
