External CCD recording

Probably a silly question, but is it possible to plug an external (i.e., a bullet CCD) into the video-in on the DVX-100a and still record in either 24p or 30p as opposed to standard NTSC? I'm not sure where the 24p -> 29.97 NTSC conversion comes into play between the cameras CCD and the tape, but if it comes in after the video-in, then I would assume in theory this would work.

Thanks in advance!

Not possible. 24P comes from the CCD's. Plugging a different camera in would give you the video quality that that camera provides, and most definitely not 24p (unless the other camera you're plugging in is a DVX or XL2!)

Re: External CCD recording

So what signal comes out of a cheap-o CCD bullet camera? They do make a distinction between NTSC and PAL models, but is that just pixel height/width + scan frequency? And if so, is the scan frequency such that it delivers odd fields followed by even fields 60 times a second, or does it just raster the whole kit-n-kaboodle 60 times a second and it lets the VTR decide what to do with the odd and even lines? If that last part is true, then it may still be possible to get 24p or 30p from one of those.

Best,

No 24P or 30P possible. The cameras output a standard PAL or NTSC signal, just like a VCR or any other video source.
