Extended Warantee

Has anyone had experience with extended warantees for the HVX200? I have been considering the Mack warantee to protect my investment after the one year warantee expires from Panisonic. The catch is that it needs to be purchased within the first 30 days - so I have about 25 days to decide.

I was told by Mack that I could get the camera repaired locally at an authorized Panasonic repair center after submitting a diagnosis from the repair center and waiting several days for an approval. Most repair centers told me that they require payment from me and i would get reimbursement from Mack.

Also, please refer a retailer for any warantee program that you recommend.

As always... thanks in advance :dankk2:

Of all the odd things, General Electric offers extended warranties on camcorders, and we purchased a 4 year extended warranty on our HVX for about $200. I believe that you can purchase the extended warranty any time within the original manufacturer's warranty period, but you would have to double check with GE on that.

The warranty pays for one cleaning/maintenance each year, and you can either send it to Panasonic or GE will find a local repair center. I believe that GE pays the repair center via credit card. I have read over the warranty terms and they are surprisingly reasonable.

I have two phone numbers for them, not sure which is which, but you might want to call and talk to them.

That's great to hear Calchip. I had a GE warantee on my projection TV at home and it paid for itself.

Considering the authorized Panasonic repair centers charge $275 just for a diagnosis, which applies to the repair cost if you decide to do the repair... $200 for a warantee will pay for itself in one repair. I always get manufaturer's extended warantees for my high end mobile gear such as laptop computers, camcorders, Big TVs and my Truck. They have all paid for themselves. I do agree that they are a waste for disposable items such as VCRs and DVD players.

According to consumer report, deffective items will break within the first few month of use. The only extra warranty I buy is apple care for my laptop, which I must admit has paid off, if anything just in term of getting help with any of the apple apps, or a new battery...

I have a mack for mine. It's a 4 year I think. But even if your carrying the one year warranty and insurance your probably good. These cameras are pretty solid and if anything does happen it will most likely be becuase of an accident of some kind and thats where the insurance comes in. Very valuable.

Also, check your credit card terms (if you paid with a cc, and you probably are better off for large $ items)

Many credit cards have a feature (built in -- no need to enable it) where if you buy the entire item with the cc, they will add an extra year to the manuf warranty (or if it is less than a year warranty, they will double it etc.)

From what I understand, they work pretty well (but I have never had to use one) and dont cost any extra.

One caveat though is I think you probably have to keep the credit card (still be a member) throughout the period
