Ext Dv Disconnect

greetings:
it's my first try to connect dvx to laptop via fw 4pin-4pin into Sony Vegas 8 or 4-6pin Final Cut (Mac G4 PB and an HP laptop Vista) same message on DVX100B screen appears when I press the cameras red record button:

EXT DV DISCONNECT

to capture live; I selected in menu/
7.other functions/dv control/ ext or both and
dv cmd sel/ I tried both rec p and stop
when both is selected, cam records to tape only, no screen message


Both laptops receive the video signal--both a live picture and when I press the vcr button on cam, the tape is also recognized. I can record to laptop by pressing record in Final Cut and Vegas, though it won't run the tape at same time.

But I get the message EXT DV DISCONNECT when I try to start and stop recording on camera.....

I'd like to do a shoot later today with a laptop if I can get this working.

Thanks. Seems that sending record command from camera does not work with Vegas and Final Cut but after downloading trial of Adobe's On Location on PC, it works fine in this app.
