Greetings Gentlemen,

Well I had a great offer of a lovely laptop (and in my er infinite wisdom) i couldn't refuse however (i lost my eye on the prize) and forgot really that the most improtant point was the use of a PCMCIA slot for the P2 cards!

So of course my laptop has an Express Card slot (imagine my dumbfolded expression when i tried to stick a p2 card in there *ahem*)

Anwyay gents I am really hoping you can help as im rather an idiot in this matter (despite my reading about it.)

For I am wondering what converter you can perhaps recommend so that the USB or Express Card slot can connect to some kind of PCMCIA reader? Is there any you could recommend (US or UK)

Would really appreciate a tip on this one gents!

Regards
Lawrie

Hi there Dick thanks for your help mate, if i can just be a bit naughty (and naive) and ask again if we know they definately work fine with p2 cards yep?

Lawrie - you didn't say whether the good deal laptop was Mac or PC.

I have an XP Dell 1705 which takes the Duel Adaptor and P2 cards for offload to drives just fine. There is no problem installing on an XP system.

If you have a Mac, it is a bit more involved but I understand it can be done on a Macbook Pro, but I have no experience. There is a thread that is quite detailed about doing this.

The Duel Adaptor is a great addition to the workflow.

Here's what looks like the same product from Synchotech.

http://www.synchrotech.com/products-expc/expresscard-pcmcia-pc_cardbus_dueladapter_01.html

I called the company and spoke to a lead tech guy and found that this product was origianally developed for P2 useage, and grew into a wireless card adapter when they realized how huge that market is. Point is, this thing is built to work with P2.

Look at the specs and you'll see it presently only supports OSX 10.4.8 (10.4.9 drivers are forthcoming) and you must restart your Mac after reinserting the adapter.

The adapter also supports Windows XP (no Vista drivers yet, but also forthcoming).

There are troubleshooting whitepapers for both Mac and Windows OS at the bottom of the link page.

Right good point well i have an intel dual core running Windows Vista - eek hehe, so er is the dual adapter okay ya reckon on that OS at all Dick?

Ah right great link BTT ill check that out too!

Ah well David that makes it pretty self exlanatory then guess its one for me! What a bugger having windows Vista though.

Btw just as an off shoot note, If I connect the HVX200 to my laptop, the laptop has a 4 pin firewire connection, am i able to use a 4 - 4 connection okay with the cam and laptop?

(I was still in 6 - 4 pin land?)

i have the duel adapter and the newest 10.4.9 macbook and got the new install of this site. but still will not pop up on my computer. hours of waisted time. what a peice of crap. useless.

Have people had more success with the duel adapter of late or has anyone found a better solution? I ask, because I am about to buy a duel adapter.

Thank you.
