Exposure too dark on 24P

Hi there,
I have a problem on my DVX-100AE that I've never seen before and wondered if anyone may be able to shed any light on it.

When I shoot progressive, the cam is fine but when I try and shoot 24P in normal DV mode, my iris won't open fully and the picture is really dark. I've been through the settings but don't know if it comes down to something simple like saving the wrong setting or if there's a fault in the camera.

Anyone have any ideas ? I'd be most grateful as I'm at my wit's ends and am trying to avoid taking the camera in and paying for repairs !

thanks so much,
Nick

Is this an NTSC or a PAL cam. Wasn't sure based on the DVX100AE designation. Sounds like a PAL cam, in which case there is no 24p mode on it.

If NTSC, on the F5 and F6 scene files, the auto-iris is set lower than normal to protect highlights that can clip in those modes because they lack knee protection. So, if you are using auto-iris, then yes, the image will be darker in those modes. You can always manually correct that.

If you are using manual iris already, one reason the iris might not open up is if you are zoomed in. The maximum open iris changes as you zoom in. At full zoom, F2.8 is as wide as it will get. That has nothing to do with 24p, though.

Hi Joshua,
Thanks v much for your response.

I'm in England and it is indeed a PAL cam. Apologies - as you said there is no 24p - what I mean to say in a nutshell is this:

I have two DVX-100A's. On one cam, I can only open up properly when shooting in progressive. If I have progressive switched off, for some reason I cannot open up the iris.

Can't work out if its an in-camera problem or whether some kind of new settings have been made by mistake.

Any ideas ?

Thanks as ever,
N.
