Exporting with Quicktime Conversion

I just shot a video in 720P30 and edited the footage in FCP. Finished piece is just under 10 minutes and I am trying to export using quicktime conversion so I can upload the video to my You Tube account. I have done this before without problems but for some reason the finished video after export on this project has a lot of pixelating in it and this has not happened before. Currently my export settings are H.264 compression, HD 1280 x 720 16:9 size, AAC sound. I set the data rate at 1800 kb/sec and checked the box to deinterlace footage. My frame rate is set to 'Current' and the key frames are set at 'every 30 frames' with frame reordering checked. I'm not sure what I need to do differently to export to a video quality closer to what I see in the final cut project. Any suggestions please?

I've never been happy with exporting through QuickTime conversion. I always export a self-contained movie file at current settings, then use Compressor to convert.

But... why are you deinterlacing 720p footage?

1800 kb/sec is low I think. Vimeo suggests 5000 for 720p videos.

The default Youtube settings in Compressor are close to 8000 kb/sec.

I concur that Compressor does a much better job for output. If you don't have Compressor, then bump up your data rate.

Not sure how the box was checked for Deinterlacing footage now that I think of it. Could that have caused an issue? I do have Compressor but I have very little experience working in that program. Are there any basic steps you may be able to offer to convert or compress the video file in Compressor once it has been exported from FCP? Thanks a lot.

I posted a set of Compressor settings that all you have to do is drag from your desktop to the Settings window in Compressor and voila. Go to this thread post and download the settings and try them: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showpost.php?p=2042972&postcount=23 (I fixed the download link in that thread, the TinyURL never worked)

Just open Compressor, drag a video file from Finder to the "down arrow box" in Untitled (upper left window). Once the custom settings you downloaded have been dragged into the Settings, select the Youtube setting, drag and drop it on the video clip you brought in prior, then click submit.
