FS7: exporting to lower ISO on FS7

hello everyone,

I have a question about monitoring in ISO 1000 in cine ei mode with a LUT and then later exporting it to pro res via catalyst prepare.

Would you guys recommend that i move the exposure slider from 2000 to 1000 then exporting it to pro res, or would it be best if I just left it at 2000 and let both the editor, and colorist know that I overexposed by a stop with the intensions of pulling it? Would it be harder to grade if I brought it to 1000 myself, or does it make no difference?

I should note that I'm only rating night time interiors at 1000, not any daytime stuff. I'm not worried about a bit of noise i just don't want most of the image to be covered with really noticeable noise since most of the nighttime shots will be about 80% shadows. here's a frame grab of a film i shot for a point of reference. http://i.imgur.com/qiEFTXJ.jpg some of the scenes will have a similar look.

really appreciate the help!

I would talk to your colorist and work out with them what they prefer. Communication is all that's needed here. Because Resolve doesn't read meta data from Sony, a problem can be they don't know which clips are intentionally overexposed versus the non ones.

Will it cost you more to go back and forth in communication with them? Is it better to avoid? Can you organize the clips well so it's clear cut?

These are the frustrations I have when coloring people's work. They usually just want to drop off a hard drive and assume I'll figure it all out. For hourly billing, no problem. But for flat rate jobs no way - I give a specific list of requirements that have to be met or I don't take the job.

Again I think just have a quick chat and get any concerns out in the table early.

Cheers,
