Exporting Settings / Washed out colors

I spent a full day a while back just to lock in Compressor (3.5.2) settings for iphone, ipad, vimeo, youtube. I am able to match my FCP (7.0.2) edits all the way through to those outputs. I do have Quicktime 7 installed on Snow Leopard. Basically I shot a video, just 10 second clips of color charts and boring stuff to have reference. It was tedious but it works.

If anyone knows how I can pass on all those settings and it be quick and easy, I am more than happy to do so.

For reference here is a screen grab of multiple apps showing the same clip: http://www.schweikertphoto.com/image_downloads/Screen%20shot%202010-06-30%20at%206.57.11%20PM.png

I know I can save the Compressor settings as droplets, anyone know if a droplet can be brought back into Compressor? If I emailed the droplets, I wonder how the custom settings could get back into Settings window.

One more thing, the way my entire pathway works (provided by a friend) is to export a Quicktime movie from FCP as a reference file only, not self contained. I bring the reference movie into Compressor and apply the setting to create a master uncompressed 8 bit movie, so a 4 minute piece averages to about 14GB master.

Then I bring that master into compressor and use it to output to any of the self made presets to devices or web. It works and I am not changing a thing.

The droplet is a package -- right-click on the droplet to show the package contents and you'll see a file in there with a "settings" extension. That's the one you want.

This explains sharing settings: http://documentation.apple.com/en/compressor/usermanual/index.html#chapter=7&section=8&tasks=true

So here are my Compressor settings, zip folder of 6 of them: http://www.schweikertphoto.com/image_downloads/compressor_settings.zip (the tiny URL never worked, sorry)

Just drag the setting files from your desktop into the settings window in Compressor, easy enough.

I am using FCP 7.0.2, Compressor 3.5.2 on Snow Leopard 10.6.3 with QT 7 installed. As I posted earlier, I export a non self contained reference Quicktime movie from FCP, drag that ref file into Compressor, apply the uncompressed 8 bit setting and submit. Then I bring that uncompressed master (big file) back into Compressor and use any of the other output settings for web or device.

So if you are doing anything outside of this workflow and app versions, no guarantee you will get the same results in the end, but it works solid for me.

There is no color management in video like the world of still photography, but I feel this is as close as it gets, until tech in the video world changes to act similar to colorsync/color management for stills.
