exporting services - a 'what should I charge' question.

Pain In The Ass 2.0
Typing up a quote tonight and I've finally run into a situation where I need some advice.

Have a client who I'll likely be shooting for in the future, but they have also asked me to help re-encode their backlog of content to be HTML5 compliant. All their videos are flash files, so re-encoding them is a no, the original projects are going to have to be opened in FCP and re-exported.

Work to be done:
• Open up project in FCP.
• Export out a new MP4 of the existing project. (Each video is 2-3 Minutes)
• Repeat 100-300 times.

Anyone have any ideas what I should charge? Per Video? Per Hour?

Whatever your regular edit rate is, charge that. If you can get a decent estimate of how long it will take to get through all of them, you can make a package rate (same as you would for a standard production). In general, though, this is the same rate for the same kind of work on the same system in the same edit suite.

i usually charge by the hour in this type of situations (exporting, capturing, re-encoding stuff, etc.). So i'd say set an hourly rate and estimate how long it will take you.
