Exporting sequence as OMF

Hi MichaelP and other users,

I captured three tapes of dv footage into xpress pro 4.6, put the one-hour-long clips on the timeline and exported the sequence as OMF 2.0 with the option "copy and link to copied media". I then moved the OMF file and the folder with copied media files to another system.

When I imported the omf file into a new project I noticed that not all media files had been exported. Only the first portion of media was copied for each master clip. I know that in Avid, one long master clip can be related to more than one media file depending on the size of it.

Is there anything I should check or uncheck in the settings tab to make sure OMF copies all media files for each master clip?

Is there a better way of sorting media from a specific project out of the OMFI MediaFiles folder? I have tried MediaMover software and it's really good, but not all companies I eventually work for have it installed.

Thanks
Sérgio

Why use OMF export? Just copy the OMFI MediaFiles folder over the new sysyem. The cop the project folder and bins to the new sysyem and open as per usual.

I forgot to say that OMFI MediaFiles folder in the system I captured footage contains media from many other projects I won't need. I want to copy media for one specific project only.

Yes, that seems to be the best choice for me. But what about that problem I mentioned in the first post? For long clips digitized to multiple files and exported as OMF 2.0 with the option "copy media and link to copied media", only the first 2GB of media for each clip gets copied to the destination folder.

Why does it happen? Is it a known bug? How can I avoid it? Because in the absence of thid-party software, that should be the way to go with Xpress Pro, shouldn't it? I also considered exporting "OMF with embedded media", but it is limited to a maximum 2GB file size and I'm expecting something around 40GB.
Thanks.

I don't use the OMF metod when I am copying files from sysytem to another. I would use MediaMover to indentify all the MediaFiles of a given project or find them by selecting the "reveal" file for every master clip I want to copy. Once a reveal file shows up, I look at creation date and time for all other captues done at that time.

I then copy those files at the finder level to another drive with an OMFI MediaFiles folder on it and copy the project and bins. The master clip in the bin will reference the sequential mediafiles automatically.
