Exporting quicktime file for internet viewing.

Hey, I asked this question in the Technical area, but didn't get any helpful answers. I have a ten minute short I wish to put online. I need to know what a suitable size is for the file. I've tried lots of tests, the best quality I've gotten was a 72meg file... that has to be too big. Any tips on using compressor to help make high quality with small size files? Whats the maximum size file I should put online?

Thanks.

Re: Exporting quicktime file for internet viewing.

I think at least half what you're currently getting (~35mb) would be the max acceptable filesize. I would think a 10min mov would be around 26-30mb at good quality.

One of the easiest ways to cut down on filesize is to make the frame size smaller.  For web distribution, you really don't need full rez files (at least until everyone has broadband:)).

Also, what codec are you currently encoding to?

Export your movie as usual, then use a program such as Cleaner to do the web compression on that file. Compressor is really more of a DVD material compressor... not web. Cut your frame rate down to 15fps, your audio's samplerate and bitrate down, and compress using a codec like Sorenson 3 or PhotoJPEG.

it may not be this simple, but i just provided rushlimbaugh.com some video of roy black in court as well as his comments afterwards. i exported from FCP using MPEG4 at 320x240, 15fps. medium quality and dial your audio rate back a bit, too i'm writing this off the top of my head - and there are some other minor tweeks - but that'll getcha started...
