Exporting Problem with 16:9 footage

Help!

Everytime I export test footage for HD 720p/24p, the 16:9 gets totally disregarded and the video appears squashed in 4:3. Can anyone help me export properly?

I'm capturing via Firewire directly in FCP. My capture and sequence presets are all DVCPRO HD 720p/24p, with Device Control Preset as Non-controllable device. The footage looks like the correct aspect ratio in the Viewer and Canvas window, but whenever I go to export, the file does not maintain the correct aspect ratio.

Am I supposed to be using a particular compression?
Any help would be great. Thanks.

What setting are you using. if you use compressor there is a box that you can chose the aspect reatio make sure it is set to 16x9 not 4x3. Also if you are not using compressor make sure what ever you are using is set to annamorphic. That might help.
 
I was using Quicktime Conversion, but it doesn't maintain the correct aspect ratio. Isn't HD footage inherently anamorphic, therefore there is no need to set it to anamorphic?

For example, if I go to Sequence >> Settings, and it's already set to HD 720p/24p, is there a need to click the Anamorphic Box? I've tried that too, but it also doesn't work. It just adds black bars to the sides of my already squished footage.

I've tried Compressor, and it also does not work. I've even tried to type in the aspect ratio manually through custom size, but it totally disregards the information.

When I open the Capture Scratch Folder, the captured clip appears in the correct aspect ratio. So I know that the capture is not the problem. It's either the Sequence itself, or the Compression.

(sigh) I wish I could figure it out...but I've already spent too many hours hitting my head on the keyboard...
 
Have you tried using just quicktime insted of quicktime conversion?? Try that and just tell it to use the same setting as the project. Now in FCP dose it look right in the viewer???
 
I'll give that a try and let you know. Yes, in both the viewer and canvas, the aspect ratio is correct.
