Ok I know how to export a quicktime file ( 1080 p ) with the highest quality which ends up being about 1+gb for every single 3-5 minute shoot I do ( Videos )

Now today I actually had to burn a Dvd and just chose export quicktime. This method only talk about 1 second as opposed to the other one which easily takes an hour if not more.

Not the file size on the export is only 85mb while the quicktime converted is 1.4gbs. So my question is why should I export the harder longer way when quality wise they look the same ( converted movies on my desktop )???????

Thanks!

I'm guessing you are talking about File > Export > Quicktime Movie? You probably didn't have the "Make Movie Self-Contained" box checked in the dialog when you got the small file.

When you don't create a self-contained movie, the resulting file references your original source material that's located somewhere else on your computer (your scratch disk, etc.). Hence it's a smaller file size because it doesn't copy over all the data into a new file.

You'll be able to use the file as long as you keep working (encoding it for web, DVD, etc.) on the same computer that has the original footage. However, if you were to move the file to another computer, it would no longer work (since it won't be able to find the original footage).

Most people still prefer to work with a self-contained file since it's one finished movie and many users (including myself) had problems in the past when working with reference files.

Hope this helps.
