Exporting from cs4 pp and retaining quality?

Hey guys

I recently purchased a hmc151 and am very happy with the quality of the footage when viewing playback in premiere. However when I come to export the footage I just cannot get it to play back anywhere near the same, despite any settings.

The image is 'jerky' and does not play back smooth like the raw file. The quality of the image is still great however. I recorded at 720p 25p and put it on a 720p 25p timeline.

When exporting, i used the h.264 codec....and a variety of settings, unfortunatley all seems to yield similar results - just not as good as the raw footage, and the 'jerky' 'ghostly' like feel to it.

I really need some help with exporting this guys, I must just be doing something stupid wrong but I cannot figure it out :crybaby:!

Please help!

Ok so in addition to my original post.

I have realised that when i take the exported file and upload it to the internet, the file plays fine?!?!?!

Its only when the file plays back on my computer (windows media player/quicktime) that I suffer?

The file plays fine on both youtube and vimeo, and indeed in premiere. Only in a media player on my computer is there an actual problem? Does anyone know why this is?

Some media players cannot reproduce the same quality as what your seeing in
Premiere Pro. I just think they aren't made to reproduce video at the same level
as your NLE.

I've experienced the same issues using Windows Media Player. Seem to fair better
with QT.

hi....yes thats essentially it. I have made progess on the problem between originally making this thread and the second post.

I have used quicktime, wmp and VLC. None of the players can cope with it, with suprisingly VLC being the worst by far, it just completely failed.

What players would you guys suggest for 25p mp4/h.264 stuff?

Depending on how fast your system is, It may not be possible to view your encoded file at full framerate. IF your PC is teetering on the brink of full framerate and choppy playback, you might want to try to find some more efficent h.264 decoders.

I know that Media Player classic Home Cinema (free download) has an integrated h.264 decoder that is DXVA accelerated. If you have a modern ATI or Nvidia card, it should help with h.264 playback when the EVR renderer is enabled.

On Windows 7, the included h.264 decoder is DXVA accelerated. Assuming you haven't installed any extra video decoders, you should get smooth playback on more modest hardware.

If you're on a mac, it sounds like you need to trade up to a faster one. I know that Quicktime X has hardware accelerated h.264 playback, so maybe an OS upgrade could help there as well (assuming you are Intel MAC with Nvidia graphics chip/card)
