I was just about to post this! Looks like Toshiba is intent on ending this format war. 98 bucks for an HD DVD player is INSANE.

is that the toshiba dvd player that can play the HD-dvd burned from dvdSP on a single layer or dual layer dvd?

Be sure to pick up a DVD copy of Wal Mart: The High Cost of Low Prices, while you're there. It's a fun movie to watch on the new DVD player and TV.

If they carry it.

wow! and I just paid $300 for a Toshiba HDA20 (but I wanted the 1080p).

and yes it plays HDDVDs burned with FCS SP (using some HVX 720p footage I shot).

BUT ... make sure you get one with an ethernet port to connect to the Internet for firmware updates. Mine would not play commercial HDDVDs out of the box, and homemade discs had audio stutter. After the firmware upgrade, everything played great. I exepct until things settle down in the format wars that more firmware upgrades will be necessary.

sounds good. i can watch it while sitting in my walmart recliner and wearing my walmart bathrobe and slippers.

i hate walmart with a passion... but i'll take advantage of some deals when given the chance..

maybe i can return it at a later date and get full refund price for it

South Park said it best (once again)... Walmart isn't the bad guy... just the catalyst.

If you want to hate Walmart you gotta' hate the Walmart shoppers first. The world is so freakin' fake and stupid when it comes to issues like these... I personally know some really hardcore union guys that buy tons of stuff at Wally World. Almost everybody does whatever is best for themselves within the moment. The few who don't will never have enough numbers to turn the school of fish.

Agreed. I can't stand Walmart (for several reasons) so I don't shop there. Though, maybe once a year, I'll end up going there because they're the only place open and I need something at 3 a.m.

I feel extremely dirty afterwards, though.

I'm pretty sure that all HD-DVD players have ethernet ports, regardless of the manufacturer. I think it's a required spec for the format.

If you're going to buy that movie, you might as well pick up a copy of the book "The Walmart Effect." Not as easy as watching a movie, but it contains more information from both sides of the debate - and, get this, it's presented fairly - so you can make your own decision about the company. Go figure.

If I didn't already have an HD DVD player, I'd be all over this. Well, and the fact that I refuse to shop on or around "Black Friday." But it's a great deal.

last black friday, i got to the best buy around 5am, and there was a line to get in the store all day, even as it got close to noon. the line was about 500 people long, to go shopping!! 0_o

yeah the lines at best buy are insane. you basically have to sit there all thanksgiving to be at the front. i'm hoping best buy will release some early deals online.

thankfully i dont have anything much else to buy consumer electronics wise. maybe a surround system i suppose, already know which one i want though :P

peeps get gift cards from me for xmas so sale or no sale, i always spend the same exact amount, let them deal with finding a sale, :D haha.
