Exporting Final Cut

Here's the story... My school just got an avid editing 'suite' with 30 avid xpress pro stations and a dolby digital wrap-around system. I've been asked to direct this curriculum and to request any other software/hardware from our technology director. Since i do not know too much about xpress pro, i am asking for some help.

We do not have mojo. We are having some problems exporting our sequences. We would either like to make final cuts onto MiniDv Tape, or DVD. My question is, what software do you suggest to produce professional quality DVD authoring?

Hey, I noticed that you are from Massachusetts. Where exactly in MA and what school? I'm from the Lawrence/Methuen area originally.

For DVD authoring, you have a lot of choices. You might want to consider getting the latest Sorenson Squeeze (for creating DVD-compliant MPEG2's) and getting the latest Sonic ReelDVD (for the actual DVD authoring).

God question... where in MA? I live just north of Boston and I could swing by for a visit...

You also need to make sure that your system is set up for output. Look in the "special" menu for output option as well as making sure your timeline is set up to either "blue dot" mode (on timeline title bar) or green/green down at the bottom of the timeline.

^^Small world. I am in Andover. Andover High just adopted a screenwriting/film making/broadcast program from emerson.

Re: Exporting Final Cut

Well seeing as I work at Avid, it is a short 20 minute drive. We should set up a time and I can take you through the feature set. We can also talk curriculum as I have consulted with many schools and universities on setting up filmmaking curriculums.

Hi Michael, i will talk to my coordinator. I believe we received the avid system from donation. Perhaps you know Mr. Taylor? I believe he was the one from avid that helped us out.

Ah, Andover High School - our rivals. I went to Central Catholic High School in Lawrence and graduated '93. Then I went to Salem State College where I got my real footing in Radio, TV & Film.

I heard you guys won the big Thanksgiving Day game this year so congrats. I grew up just over the South Lawrence border near the Andover Hockey Shop.

Ironically, I directed the Andover High School football games for local cable broadcast during the 1998-1999 seasons. Randy Perillo and Rob Weatherby were the commentators.

I remember the whole city practically loved what we did. We were even invited to their awards banquet. We were going to do it a 3rd season but the school didn't want to pay us. Parents were so upset! But hey, we did it for 2 seasons FREE and we were ready to be paid a few bucks. Oh well. I soon moved out to Los Angeles after all that.

So yeah, I've been to your production facility and I bet it looks REALLY nice now with all the Avid systems. :) Wish I could come by too. I'm anticipating going back that way this coming summer.

Good luck with it all!

Adam Taylor is VP of Wordwide Sales and lives in Andover, and I know him well. He is a great guy, that is also a great gift! Let me know when you want to arrange for visit.
