Exporting Feature...*URGENT DEADLINE*

Here's the general workflow:

- We shot Canon 7D
- Converted to Prores 422 (HQ) for editing
- Completely edited
- Exporting proxy file for Compressor
- Problems with Alpha Channel

The project is 1:42:00 and so some quick research led us to Prores 4444 being the only option, however that render out is ridiculously long (because it has to convert from Prores 422 I guess) and the file size will be massive.

Is that our only option? How will this affect our Compressor settings? Does anything have to change? Will going from 160+GB (the Prores 4444 file) to under 4.7GB for a DVD be an issue?

We're trying to get into TIFF and today's our last day for exporting issues...really need to figure this out today!

Can anyone help us determine the best workflow?

Thanks,

Kegan

What is the need for an alpha channel if the video is going to DVD?

Second, a 102 minute video will be on a single layer, but even when using ac3 audio, there will be issues with image degradation at that length

What are you needing an Alpha channel for specifically?
Where did you get 4444 is your only option?
What is your final delivery?
I'm not clear why you started with HQ from DLSR footage when LT is all you need, nor what your final output is beside DVD.

If it's DVD, you don't have to go out to anything over ProRes LT. Or Send To Compressor, apply the appropriate DVD encoding preset folder (DVD Best Quality 120 minutes). The image quality will still be very good for DVD.

Hm, I don't think its an alpha channel issue to be honest. We were just exploring possible options here.

What happens is the first ten titles work fine, but then it moves into another scene and when the titles come in - the image brightens with the intro of the title and darkens with the fade out. Once the image darkens it looks like it shows a tiny bit more of a frame. So its like an exposure shift that only happens when titles are shown...and not even all the titles, it just starts about a minute in.

Well the 4444 was when we thought alpha channels were our issue. I'm not the editor on the project and I had initially recommended a "Send to Compressor" situation too, but as far as I recall...when he did some research, either for speed or quality they said to export a reference file and have Compressor use that reference file to create the DVD required settings.

David,

I'd go right to Blu-Ray if TIFF let me. Image degradation isn't my concern as DVD is the only format the festival will accept for a submission. I know its not a very coherent post guys - I'm sort of getting some information bit by bit as he tries different things.

Computer screen - both it being fine and the exposure shift during export.

Wait, so the exposure shift and frame size shift is happening on ALL the titles - just there's so much happening in the beginning it was hard to catch. Exposure and frame shifts...what a weird issue.

Sorry for the multiple posts, but here's the latest.

He changed the sequence settings to Prores 4444 and did a quick export of the first minute and we're getting similar time/file size as our previous 422 reference file which is good and no exposure/frame size shifts. Only downside is that rendering the sequence is going to 4444 is going to take 10hrs...which we don't have.
