Exporting as AVI - it doesn't do it

I need to export a sequence that is approximately seven minutes long as an AVI to burn to a DVD, but after trying three times, when playing back the exported video, it stops after five seconds. after that, its done. nothing. only the first five seconds of the sequence get saved. everything was properly rendered, no unusual settings were made, and there's nothing in the timeline at five seconds that's unusual and has a potential of causing such a problem. any ideas?
Using compressor to export isn't an option either, every time I try to do that I run into an error message to which I know the solution of but I can't really do anything about (it involves re-installing the program and i have a *cough* evaluation copy).
I have yet to try any other methods of exporting this particular sequence because I'm not looking to get any major quality loss so if anyone happens to know what's going on i'd appreciate it. Thanks!
EDIT - H.264 works, I'm trying uncompressed 10 bit and "none" as well.
Also, I tried exporting a different sequence as an AVI and it worked just fine, so there's either something wrong with this particular sequence or footage.
EDIT II - I also tried trashing the preferences, that didn't seem to do anything.

Weird. I was going to say could it have to do with Flip4Mac only letting you export a portion of the sequence, but you have it working with another sequence. besides, I don't think you need Flip4mac to export AVI's...Its late and I'm tired.

Happy troubleshooting.

I'm using quicktime conversion to export, and I tested it on a different sequence and it cut off after a minute.
Why do you need an avi to burn a DVD? Wont a .mov do it?
The last time I tried burning a quicktime movie to a DVD I think I remember it not working, not really sure. I could have forgotten to make it a self contained movie though. If not I suppose I could export as an uncompresed quicktime movie and convert it to an AVI in a different program, so long as the quality loss is minimal.
