Exporting 90+ minutes to DVD

Most of us will have at some point exported a short film to a DVD. I wondered if anyone has ever exported a feature length film to a standard DVD? Is this actually possible or would you recommend exporting to Digi-Beta / HDCAM-SR for feature length material? I have often wondered about this question.

Most DVDs you buy say "4.7 Gb / 120 mins" but I often wondered whether the latter is true, if so, what format do you need to use in order to squeeze a 2 hour film onto a DVD?

Thanks
David

120 minutes will fit on a DVD5. Note that it holds 4.3 GB/s formatted.

However, bit rate will be very low -- around 3.5 with dolby2 audio.

It's not the codec that determines what will fit, but the length of the video in total minutes

Where would you buy a DVD5? Is this a dual layer (DL specification) DVD? I seem to recall some electronic stores are selling DVD-DL disks in addition to DVD+Rs, -RWs, +RWs and -Rs.

DVD5 is a stand 4.7 GB DVD that formats to 4.3 GBs.

DL disks are twice the size, but recordable DL sometimes do not play well on set tops.
