Exporting 7D footage into a image sequence.

Okay,

So, I'm working with a post-house for visual effects and they want me to export an image sequence (Targa Raw) of the footage.

This is my workflow.

- Imported footage into FCP.
- Editing in a 24 fps timeline.
- I also confirmed the 59.98 footage to 24p using Cinema Tools.
- Once I brought the confirm footage into the timeline. I then Exported it using the image sequence from QuickTime.

Image Sequence Work Flow.
- Targa
- 24 fps
- best depth
- current aspect ratio (1920x1080)d

Now, When My VFX Supervisor is looking over the footage on Shake, he notices a interlace problem.

Why is that?

Should I export him the image sequence as the raw frame rate = 59.98 or is there any way around this?

Please Advise.

Thanks.

If you conformed the footage into a 29.97i format, it means that you added a 3:2 pulldown to the footage.

Once a 3:2 pulldown has been applied, parts of frames will be destroyed. Unfortunately you will need to go to your original 23.976 footage and put out an image sequence from there to maintain full quality.

You could potentally remove the pulldown from the entire clip, and then output 23.976fps with a small quality loss if you had a lot of effects and compositing done to your 59.94 conform (I'm assuming 29.976i, but some editors will say 59.94 to let you know it's going to NTSC)

Do you see the interlace problem he's referring to in the image seq that you exported?

Maybe he's mistaking aliasing for interlace artifacts, because nothing in your workflow should introduce interlacing. It's all progressive from start to finish.

Loss? Aside from recompression, there should be no loss with pulldown. Yes, it has to be *properly* removed (a poor removal could lead to incorrect frame decimation), but this isn't hard, nor is it lossy.
