Hi, we have done a documentary and the producers ask for a tape in DVCpro HD.
How do you put out of your computer the P2- MXF staff. Which card do you use?. I suppose that we will need a HD SDI card to get the best quality? Which one is working well?. We have the Blackmagic Intensity Pro but it just have component output.
Thanks
Pablo

You can use any standard Firewire output, to record a DVCPro stream and to do a playout. Any Pannasonic DVCPro deck will have a firewire port. You do not need pricey SDI cards.

I just write my show to a P2 card. Then I take my 500 to a dubbing house and play back thru SDI. The dubbing house usually has a SDI to Firewire converter if needed. Or the deck might have a SDI in. Works great. I've even dubbed HD shows to HDcam VTRs with my camera as the playback source. Cheaper than renting a HDcam deck.

Hi,

the problem with SDI is, that you produce one generation loss. With SDI you are converting to uncompressed and the destination DVCPROHD deck recompresses the signal to DVCPROHD. With firewire you will get a 1:1 copy. So don't use SDI if your destination is a DVCPRO HD deck. EVERY DVCPROHD deck has a firewire port!

If you copy to a HDCam deck SDI is your prefered choice.
