when i attempt to export h264 in premeire it just quits and says "unknown error."

i have jpegs in my video.

im sure that is not enough info to intelligently answer my question, but i thought there may be some advice on things to try.

thanks

you know that's not enough and you're not telling us anything else because...

because i'm very new and not sure what else to tell. ummm, it is premeire, cs4..... footage from a d90 with jpegs in the video. and i cant export h264. i'd really like help, if there is a question im not answering id be happy to answer it. thanks.

cs4, that's a start. do you happen to know what operating system you're on, what h.264 codec, what timeline settngs, when the error occurs more specifically, whether you can export to other formats, did you apply any filters, and anything else you may know regardless of whether you think it's relevant or not? hey even the weather and moon phase counts. don't be shy... ;-)

it is windows vista. the error occurs about 10 seconds after the export starts. i have been exporting avi files using cineplex codec i think. actually, this is the only combo (ie microsoft avi using cineplex) that seems to be exporting from the few i have tried. it seems to only give me the option to do uncompressed audio no matter what i do. i have been exporting "no fields progressive scan" but have recently been told deinterlace would be better. not sure about what h.264 codec or timeline settings-- im using 24 fps... i will copy my presettings below.

i didnt use any filters, i used levels and fades a lot. i have "credits" at the beginning and end (ie black background with white lettering). i used the ken burns effect a lot on the photos. i resized photos to about 2000 pixels wide.

thanks for any suggestions. i am lost, i think the video cam out well though :)

edit: would seeing the video help? just in case..... (this was compressed using the avi cineplex combo)

can you export in a format that works and recompress to h.264 using either premiere or a standalone tool? i'm trying to pinpoint whether it's the codec that fails or something else. too bad you're on vista, i don't have any such box myself.

that is a great suggestion. i tried to export an uncompressed version and it seemed to work. i then had an avi file that i was going to try and have quicktime convert, but b4 putting it in quicktime i realized the file wound not even play. it was 10gb though so i know it was there. anyway, thanks for any help. this is really the first time ive delved into this

you should set video rendering to mjpeg btw, or uncompressed, or huffyuv or whatever, cinepak is a more than obsolete codec. doesn't matter if you export without rendering i think, but rendering will probably make subsequent exports faster. i must admit i haven't used premiere for a couple of years though so i'm not completely sure.
