Export Setting for Blu-ray?

Hi All,

I have various pieces of footage (1080i and 720p) that I would like to export onto a hard drive to have them made into Blu-ray discs. The various formats are not for the same project but would like to know what settings I should be using.

What export settings do you recommend? I would like something high quality but not necessarily "uncompressed". Has anyone had experience doing this and could share with what they found to reap the best quality?

I am using a Mac just so you know. I do not have an HD Cam deck so I must use hard drives.

Please let me know if you have estimated file sizes at the various settings.

The format will depend on what the authoring service can accept. There are lossless and near-lossless codecs that would save you a bunch of disk space, but if the people authoring the disk can't deal with them, it's pointless.

The few programs that I know of that author Blu-Ray and HD DVD disks do so in MPEG2 format and not the more advanced codecs like VC-1 or H.264. If that is what the service you are going to uses, then they can't exploit the full potential of the HD disk formats, and you could deliver them MPEG2-encoded video.
