EXPORT 5D to 35mm film

A production house I'm working with is shooting a feature for theatrical release in December 2010.

The film will be shot with a 5D and 7D and is currently in production.

Anyone out there have hands on experience with the workflow from 5D/7D camera files to 35mm print?
These guys do have 30+ years of 35mm film TV commericial experience, Arri 35mm gear and lenses plus 5 EX3s,
so they are not newcomers, but are new to the 5D/7D for 35mm output.

Well your best bet would be to talk to the post house that are doing your digital to film conversion they will have all the info you need.

Thanks Derek. They are having a 35mm print made for a Monday screening of a 5 minute scene shot this week. I'm just looking for some additional expert opinions here. There is still time to look at options before they strike 100 theatrical release prints in Dec.

Hey Rockmore,

We've done 5d and 7d transfers to film with excellent results. You can email me at dvfilm@dvfilm.com with questions.

Here are some of the basics. As long as they shot 24p which is probably the case, the transfer to 35mm workflow is the same as with any digital source. They would pretty much send us the file edited file in 20 minute reels as Uncompressed 10bit 4:2:2 Quicktimes. We can also take Prores HQ and DVCPROHD quicktimes. 48k stereo or 5.1 audio tracks.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Best Regards,
Andy Olson
