Exploring Zacuto's Clearance Aisle

I've been using Zacuto gear for years and only recently noticed the clearance section on their site (http://store.zacuto.com/clearance/).

There are some fairly steep discounts in this section, such as $100+ off a Z-Finder, or $300+ off a Z-focus, and a variety of clamps (sorry, Z-clamps) at half-price.

I was intrigued, but also hesitant because of this scary notice:

This is a DEMO open box item. It may have scratches, dents, small blemishes or other cosmetic defects but is still in complete working condition. This item still holds our lifetime repair warranty.

Ultimately, curiosity got the better of me and I picked up some clearance items to build a minimal handheld rig for the GH4. I saved over $150 which is nice, but I was still unsure of what condition the items would be in.

When I got the items and checked them out, I couldn't find any issues at all, cosmetic or otherwise. Maybe I just got lucky since items could be tossed in the clearance bin for different reasons, but the items I received looked brand new. I even wrote a couple blog posts on the clearance items like a Zwivel comparison and a DIY Target Shooter rig

I just wanted to share my experience in case anyone else was wondering what kind of condition to expect from Zacuto's clearance items. Has anyone else purchased clearance items from Zacuto? What sort of condition were the items you received in?

I got a couple of things off that list including a Z crank and handle - huge bargain, no problems. It all looked new to me.

Ditto on the Zacuto stuff on clearance. I've purchased a few modular components for the 15mm rod system and they all look pretty good to me. Nothing jarring. Maybe not as shiny? But it looks 9/10 to me.

There were some really good deals on quite a range of their product shelf. Some was demo stuff from trade shows and their store room, other stuff were things that didn''t sell well but still quite useful to many. I managed to pickup a bunch of 19mm pieces at a considerable discount. I would check it out if you haven't to see if there is still stuff available.

I just picked up 2 wedge plates for my Canon TA-100. Was surprised that they are made out of stainless steel. I will make a adapter plate to use with my cameras. Shipping on the website was almost 10.00. I asked the sales lady to ship as cheap as possible and came up with free shipping! Sure they only need to go into a padded envelope but still that was awesome.
All I ever hear about Zucuta is that they have awesome quality, I'm stoked.
