exploding Light Bulb

I have an extreme low budget and I was wondering if anyone knew how to accomplish this. It would be greatly appreciated. The actor turns on the light and then takes it off and hold the light bulb and it mentally breaks. Thanks if anyone can answer my question.

Well, the bulb is going to be hot when he takes it out. So maybe he could grab a cloth so he does not burn his hands. Then on the closeup, you don't need to actually see his hand, but he could wear work gloves underneath the cloth if need be. And safety glasses.

But I'd go breakaway if possible.

Actually, I can do that pretty quickly using CG. If you want, gimme a shout later. I think I have a CG bulb around here somewhere.

...or maybe you could shoot it from a close range (just make sure not to miss). I don't know if you have access to a handgun or rifle, but there's no way anyone would see the bullet.

That'de be cool. I'm leaning towards the ol apple on the noggin routine and have it taken out with a bow an arrow myself. What the hell, I'd throw in a couple beer to see that. :)

Possibly drill the end part, and fit it to a low pressure compressor? Is the actor's face going to be in the scene? If so, this may be too dangerous. If not, cover him well to protect from flying glass, and run the hose through his sleeve into his hand.

But in respect to the art of magic, and all of it's artists please do not openly share the secret.

Shoot it with a low-ish power BB gun. If you miss and hit your actors hand it will hurt, but it wont draw blood or anything...
