Hi all
I'm looking forward to by PMW-EX1. I live in Switzerland and have found the camera at a swiss located dealer. The price ( 9'100$) seems to me quiet right, but i also have found the camera overseas (USA) for 10% less then in Switzerland. Does anybody have any expierenc about warranty. Is the camera equal equipped in USA then in Europe?

Thanks in advance for your tips. :dankk2:

regards Gises-

btw: I found the camera at pricewise.ch

I wouldn't worry about it. From my experience, if it does break, Sony will find any excuse possible to void it, forcing you to pay the bill.Sometimes for parts they think you might need and not because those parts are broken.

Buy it in Zwitserland man. If it breaksdown even with warranty, you are better off if you can personally go to Sony Service to "thow a stone through their windows"(my way of expressing my frustration with Sony Service).
Besides, it will cost you a fortune to send it back.

the warranty option is an interesting question. I bought my EX1 from expandore in singapore.

i also purchased a 2 year international mac warranty with the camera, this was only after a email confirmation from mac stating that if sony was not in the country then the next authorised repair shop would be okay for repairs. I have yet to test this mac warranty.

You need to consider how much you save from buying the EX1 overseas versus locally. In my case it was up to 40% savings because i did not use the Sony Importer and rather went with a grey import with a mac warranty. Would this savings be able to cover a repair?

Im interested to know also what recording media you are going to use, given what you spoke about in the SDHC bad sector thread.

I got mine from B&H for 6,099.00, but I also went with their 500.00, 3 year, anything goes, protection plan. It's worth it to me. The B&H plan includes free shipping back and forth, and if they cant fix whatever it is they replace the camera. You can drop it off a building and they will fix it.

yes that's true, B&H don't allow sales of the ex1 internationally. I originally asked them when will you allow sales of ex1 for overseas. There reply was "the simple answer is, when sony let us"

Sony wants their products to be imported by the people they choose to import their products at the time when they think its best.

there are alternatives, i mentioned expandore, also i keep seeing this global media pro, but i am waiting for someone to let me know if hes any good.

If the price you pay in Europe is more than $1,000.00 US more for an EX1, maybe you could find a plane ticket to New York for cheaper, and take the camera home yourself?

Hi all,

Thanks for the input and your thoughts.
I think i will stick with a dealer in switzerland, i'm in contact with two and looking forward for there best price.
