How do you activate expanded focus in the AF100A. Understand this is one of the new features in the A version, but can't find any info on how to make it work

You have to assign it to one of the USER buttons! I have mine set to USER 2 at the moment. Good spot for it.

okay, how do you implement it....using the menu system, and then user? Does this give you two times magnification?

Found it in Vol1 of the AF100A manual:

  1. Assign EXPAND to any of the USER 1 – 3button in the menu SW MODE screen.

Incidentally, the manual for the AF100A is NOT available on line...just on the disc that comes with the cam!

I have the shuttle 2 and the mounting plate...along with a 256GB card but trying to figure out a good place to mount. Haven't done a serious comparison yet...no time. System does work. Tried with 24fp;s and am getting a 1920 x 1080 Pro 'Res file. Also unit will turn on and off with the record button on the camera. Anyone have suggestions for mounting, plus what to shoot for a test. I don't have test cards but since I live in northeastern vt, there is plenty of beautiful scenery...lakes and waterfallls etc.

I also just received a Shuttle 2 with the mounting plate. I'm going to try to mount with a cold shoe adapter (if it's not too heavy), but I'm leery of this. If it is too top heavy, I'm thinking a rail system mount or another direct-to-handle mount may be the only other viable options, even though I've heard of people mounting it with velcro to the camera (without the heavy plate, I'm sure).

I just unboxed a AF100AP and have shot twice with it. Having used the AF100 for about a year, I was very excited to have the expanded focus. I found that was one of the deficiencies of this camera until now. But for the life of me, I can't figure out how to see the expanded focus view in the viewfinder. It works great on the flip out LCD, but doesn't show up in the eye piece. This is disappointing, especially when shooting outside in bright sunlight. I always do crucial focussing in the viewfinder rather than the LCD screen. Anyone know if this is a setting I've overlooked?

I'm pretty sure expanded focus doesn't happen in the viewfinder.

On my AF105A it appears to be only through the LCD, not viewfinder. You can, of course, activate and view the focus bar through the viewfinder, which helps along with the normal focus assist. I also set the viewfinder to B&W to make focusing easier.

A bizarre omission. I wonder if there's a future firmware fix for this? I know Panny has stated that focus assist was undoable for the original AF100, hopefully that's not the case for the viewfinder for the A model viewfinder.

I'd be absolutely astounded and grateful if Panny came out with a new a firmware update for this camera. I feel as if they've already moved on.

Yeah, it does seem like they've thrown in the towel a bit. So strange that expanded focus won't work in the eye piece... An oversight, or a technical problem? If it's an oversight, a firmware fix shouldn't be that hard - should it?
