Hello to everyone, I've been reading this forum all day and thought I'd join. In the next 4 hours, I will be picking up a DVX100a from a friend for only $700. It comes with two batteries, a charger, and the century .7 lens. He informed me that the zoom out is kind of slow, and has been that way for some time, and that thats the only issue. (He owns other cameras now, including the HVX-200 so he doesn't mind letting this one go.) I just wanted ask a few questions..

1.) is the differences between dvx100a and dvx100b night and day, or just minor things?

2.) is it normal for the camera to have a slow zoom? I'm not too sure what he meant by it, it didnt sound MAJOR, and for only $700, still sounded like a great deal (i think)

Thanks for your guys time

thanks for responding pretty fast.. For the zoom thing, He made it sound like with the zoom button, it goes really slow. I don't know in details though, he just wanted to inform me with that.

Also, that link does make it seem like dvx100b is the better choice, but I assume the dvx100a for my first "decent camera" for only 700$ is still worth it, atleast I can learn a lot with it..

but thanks again..

If you utilize your time with it right- the 'experience' you'll gain is priceless...so yes $700 for a damn good camera is a sweet deal.

Welcome to your favorite new home- scour these pages!! Tons of info!! Also pick up Barry Green's DVX book- it's the bible 'round here for the DVX cams. Read it cover to cover- then backwards, upside down and again You can find it here:

cheers-

happy shooting!

lol thank you alignment for the comment.. i just picked up the camera, the zoom was nothing major... one of the zoom buttons once you let go, it continues to zoom up very slowly til you kind of click the button to zoom out.. hard to explain but nothing major at all

i have been checking it out in my room, and i can tell there is a lot of noise, but i figure my room has poor lighting, and also i haven't learned the functions yet lol, so can't complain yet.. but i am excitied, and can't wait to learn it through..

yup...as Zack said. pick up that dvx book. think can get it on amazon or just order from here.

I also suggest you use it on full manual controls to get better use and control over ur camera. When i first got mine everything i shot was manual...manual focus...manual zoom, manual white balance ect to force me to learn all these things. It hasnt been in auto since.
