GH5 Excessive peaking on my new GH5

Is it just my unit, or is peaking excessive on all GH5 under the latest firmware? No matter High or Low, particularly in the viewfinder it's all over the scene! At first I thought this is noise, when I aimed the lens towards a rather dark place... In such a dark scenery, peaking should be minimal, only here and there on really contrasty edges...Here almost all pixels of the VF are busy! The monitor is not that bad, perhaps simply because it's lower contrast. There is almost no difference between the High and Low settings (apart from the color), and "busy pixels" are everywhere (not just edges - even flat black surfaces like a blank PC screen)...

So please tell me - is my brand new unit malfunctioning already? TIA

I noticed this yesterday when using a wide angle Canon 16-35. Even on Low everything had peaking all over it. For shallow depth shots it's pretty good. I also feel Low is stronger than High setting. Maybe I have the setting wrong. Need to look into it.

I think the 'low' and 'high' settings might have to do with the contrast in the scene (low or high contrast). Not sure though.

I've used a G85 a few times and noticed 'low' was stronger many times.

from the manual:

When [Detect Level] in [SET] is set to [HIGH], portions to be highlighted are reduced, allowing
you to achieve a more precise focus.

Yeah, I've also noticed it with the 16-35 Canon on the XL Speed Booster. But hey - when you close the aperture down to say F10, and at the maximum focal length of this lens (35mm is not THAT wide, especially on MFT), the peaking should be more - hmm - picky? :)

On my unit it's definitely excessive; btw which sharpening value in your PPs are people using on the GH5? I'm still at default values mostly everywhere in the menu...

Thats might be part of your problem. The GH5 is insanely detailed. On the GH4 I tend to use -5 because I like a natural image without any sharpening or edge enhancement. Unlike the other settings sharpness of 0 isn't off but the middle of the range. Cameras don't add a blur filter so the detail at -5 is a closer match to what the sensor is capable of doing. 0 is 50% added sharpness which really I don't think the GH5 needs. Dropping the sharpness may help with the focus peaking since you will get less false positive readings.
